DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Davao City office is partnering with the Knights of Online Marketers, a start-up information and communication technology firm, to tap into the growing demand for virtual office assistants.
Engineer Edwin O. Banquerigo, DTI-Davao City director, said a virtual assistant, also commonly referred to as VA, can earn as much as P30,000 a month, depending on the skill level.
VA, an emerging area of the business process outsourcing industry, generally involves individual workers who provide administrative, technical, or even creative assistance to clients remotely. The work can range from helping with social tasks to bookkeeping and research.
In Davao City, according to Mr. Banquerigo, there are currently more than a hundred professionals providing the service. DTI and the Knights of Online Marketers (KOM) will give free training to all interested individuals, including persons with disabilities (PWDs).
“There are PWDs who are college graduates of computer and business related courses. Others are skilled PWDs,” said Esterlita Payumo, coordinator for Project SELP (Support the Employment and Livelihood of Person). DTI Davao information officer Jenny Grace Mendoza-Molbog said PWDs will be given equal opportunity in the training.
