Virtual Assistant Orientation Program (VAOP) Plaque of AppreciationSince 2015, the Knights of Online Marketers (KOM) has been an active Strategic Partner and Industry Collaborator of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Field Operations Office Mindanao Cluster III (FOO-MC3) under the firm leadership of Cluster Director Alimbzar Azum, CESO V.

It was during the ICT Multi-stakeholders’ Forum and BIMP-EAGA Livelihood Exchange, held August 20, 2015, at SMX Convention Center when KOM started to collaborate with the cluster in promoting digital opportunities using information and communications technology. The partnership then continued by an invitation to be the Resource Person to talk about the Rural Impact Sourcing Initiative Programs during the Davao del Norte ICT Multistakeholders’ Forum held March 20, 2016, at the Provincial Capitol of Davao del Norte. After which, series of events where organized having KOM and DICT Mindanao Cluster III (MC 3) as Industry Partners.

January 2017 when MC3 organized and facilitated a roadshow aiming to promote job employment through information and communications technology in the countryside. Since the objectives are also aligned with the advocacy-based mission of the Knights of Online Marketers, a public-partnership was initiated. Hence, the start of the “Virtual Assistant Orientation Program (VAOP) Roadshow” with local government units as a support system.

BRIEF: The Virtual Assistant Orientation Program (VAOP) of KOM

The Virtual Assistant Orientation Program (VAOP), or otherwise known as the “Virtual Assistant Boot Camp: How to Work and Do Business Online,” is a regular event of the Knights of Online Marketers (KOM), where the KOM Academy, its Academic Division providing training for online services, will conduct a general orientation on how to work and do business online to different regions and cities of the Philippines in partnership with public and private organizations.

The Virtual Assistant Orientation Program (VAOP), generally concentrates on giving the right knowledge to the public as to what working online is all about particularly on how to start engaging with this growing profitable industry. This is not just a job and employment opportunity for the participating individual, but it is also a business opportunity for those who desire to establish their own online business, making them competitive both in the local and international market.

Virtual Assistant Brian - KOM Academy[Written by: Angelo Brian Peliño] Taking the time portal back to late 2005, this was the time when I just totally lost my vision and was caged in our house for few months. During those days, I was fascinated with rap music playing on the radio and childishly hoped to be a rap artist someday. Eventually, I got my feet back to school on the following year and learned all about the Braille system for the blind. This intensified my desire to give a shot to my ambition, and I started by learning to write poems for me to learn how to create raps.

From there, I dug deeper into the world of literature and temporarily set aside my rap goals. But when the last year of high school slaps me awake, I realized writing couldn’t get me a handsome job for profit. That’s where I eyed for online writing jobs for possible sources of income, while college continuously calls for me. And so, I took up BS in Psychology which is also another interest of mine and pursued it up until graduation.

Apologies for such long Segway before my actual story with the Knights of Online Marketers Academy, but just ride on for the sake of relevance.

Few months after college, I heard about the training course program provided by the Knights of Online Marketers. A friend of mine who’s also a totally blind told me about this, and so I inquired with Ma’am Piper Ramboanga for more info about the Academy. Without any second thoughts, I immediately enrolled in the program and goes through the training towards being a virtual assistant.

The training in KOM Academy went smoothly in more than two weeks. Albeit accessibility issues with software applications and some important websites wasn’t eliminated, trying to find some other routes to go on was excellently done. A wide range of topics was offered by KOM Academy like SEO, Basic HTML, newsletter creation, Photo Shaft editing, and blogging among many others. All are truly beneficial for VA newbies, and could perfectly serve as a starting point for a great career.

I have the chance to be an SEO specialist. I can even be an HTML developer if I wish. Learning how to be a BlogSpot and WordPress ninja can also be aimed by my basic skill sets. Nonetheless, I am a writer. I am a writer and my pen is always waiting for me. That’s why I grabbed my pen back up, and voila! I’m here.

It took me for almost two years before I landed a stable job. Luckily, I grabbed two clients as of now. Albeit I admit, I’m not a jack of all trades when talking about the VA profession, at least I’m sure I’m on my way towards mastering my writing skills.

Virtual Assistant Angelo Brian PelinoDoing various writing stuff, and developing my skills towards being a professional freelance writer. Earning while staying on track with the reason of my pen sure is enjoyable!

Aside from being a freelance writer, I am also a part of a literary group and have successfully taken part in co-authoring two published books with poems and flash fictions. With the current state of myself, I can say I’ve managed to make my way towards the goal that I want cleverly. Next stop? Recording studios, perhaps.

This wouldn’t be possible without the KOM Academy who has shown me the bridge towards online venture. You must know the massive interface of the cyberspace, and trying to land a job without any ideas where to start can be compared to finding a needle in a stack of hay.

Writing a poem always get me thinking about few things, and sometimes I can’t stop thinking about myself years ago. Started with a childish ambition, turning out to be worth to dream about as I ride on the paper with my name on it.

January 28, 2017, when the Knights of Online Marketers (KOM) received a message from the Municipality of Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte asking if its Academy can conduct their Skills Development and Enhancement Program (Virtual Assistant Training) in their town.

February 6, 2017, when the Municipality called and followed up if the invitation for the comprehensive training is feasible and a meeting with the Municipal Planning is possible.

February 13, 2017, when we replied about checking our Calendar of Activities as we also have other scheduled orientation program and training in other cities and municipalities.

February 22, 2017, when the third follow-up was made. KOM asked if the meeting can be scheduled for a weekend as our weekdays are fully occupied.

February 27, 2017, when we finally identified a date. Unfortunately, I texted the wrong number. Good thing Facebook Messenger was an alternative option. We suggested if we can schedule the meeting March 4 and 5 (Saturday and Sunday) as our training in General Santos City was re-scheduled.

March 2, 2017, when the Municipality suggested if our visit can be scheduled on a Monday for us to participate in the Sangguniang Bayan Session. We felt the eagerness of Kapatagan actually to pursue the Virtual Assistant Training. We checked the calendar again. Good news that the First Philippine Impact Sourcing Conference (PISCon) was re-scheduled from April 4-5 to April 5-6 and this gave me the opportunity to visit April 3 which is Monday.

March 22, 2017, when KOM received the official invitation letter from the Office of Municipal Mayor Barry Y. Baguio. Blessing in disguise that I also have scheduled orientation program in Cagayan de Oro City, Municipality of Opol, El Salvador City, and Iligan City dated March 30 to April 1.

April 2, 2017, when KOM traveled to Municipality of Kapatagan.

Municipality of Kapatagan, Lanao del NorteApril 3, 2017, when KOM had a courtesy visit to their Municipal Mayor and presented the program to the Vice-Mayor and SB Members. There were proper deliberations and the training design was developed primarily for the Municipality.

April 19, 2017, when KOM followed up the decision if the training proposal was approved. We suggested May 15 to 24, 2017. Yes, KOM will stay ten (10) days to conduct a comprehensive Virtual Assistant Training.

April 25, 2017, when KOM received a message that the training proposal was approved by Mayor Barry Baguio and just waiting for the Notice of Awards from the Bids and Awards Committee.

May 08, 2017 when KOM received the Final Training Design and Contract of Service.

May 09, 2017 when KOM submitted the signed documents.

May 15, 2017, when KOM provided the requirements needed like Mayor’s Permit (Business Permit), DTI Certification, and Income Tax Return to secure legitimacy.

May 16, 2017, when KOM received the Notice of Awards.

May 18, 2017, when KOM traveled to the Municipality of Kapatagan via Bukidnon-Cagayan de Oro-Iligan route.

May 19, 2017, when KOM arrived at 9:00 o’clock in the morning and had a courtesy call with the Municipal Mayor.

May 20, 2017, when the first day of the ten days started with 21 Trainees correctly identified and screened.

What Can You Do to Increase your Chances of Getting Hired at OnlineJobs.PH?The recently concluded Davao Start Up Weekend which was sponsored by OnlineJobs.Ph proved to be a successful event in more ways than one. While employees and budding entrepreneurs converged to pitch their business ideas, it was also a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals.

For Virtual Assistant Ronald Ramboanga, the event was doubly successful. Besides gaining knowledge and ideas on how to set up his own business, Ronald received a message that he has been hired by an employer at OnlineJobs.PH. The offer was for a full-time position as a Virtual Assistant.

Online Jobs.PH was designed for employers abroad who need skilled Filipino workers. They browse through thousands of resumes for workers whom they feel will be suited for the job. For workers, the site is free to use. Interested workers can work either full time or part time or on a per project basis by uploading their updated resume on the account they have created. OnlineJobs.PH advocates the work from home career, and most of the time, you can do your work at your preferred hours.

Is a resume enough?

Like office career applications, a simple resume is sometimes not enough. Ronald advises that as an applicant, you should be conscious of the contents and details of your profile which will be seen by possible employers. It can be as simple and concise as you want, but the important information should all be there. For as long as these details are specific and true, employers will immediately see if they will consider you to be hired and give you the job.

More importantly, your future employers should also be able to verify your identity as well as the other credentials that you have provided.

“When I updated my profile, I made sure that I can verify my identity as a real person by uploading a photo and an ID issued by the government. With regard to rating your skills, always consider honesty in your personal assessment. You must not rate yourself that high if you are not that skilled,” Ronald advised.

Although it took several months before a good offer came along, it was clearly worth the wait. He was hired for a full-time post with a respectable starting salary. Ronald’s client was very impressed with his skills and experience that he was hired immediately. He wants to share his enthusiasm to other OnlineJobs.PH job seekers by giving these tips.

Top five tips to increase a worker’s chances of getting hired:

a. Upload a professional primary photo and not a regular selfie.

b. Upload an identification card issued by the government to verify your identity.

c. Complete all personal details especially the skills summary.

d. Rate your skills with honesty.

e. When you apply, always proofread your cover letter. As much as possible, do not use saved templates.

What Can You Do to Increase your Chances of Getting Hired at OnlineJobs.PH?

Ronald’s is just one of thousands of success stories at OnlineJobs.PH. You or a friend or loved one can be the next. All you need is courage to take the first steps. Upload your resume and complete the necessary details. To increase your chances, you should also take the skills tests found online. These are not mandatory, but taking them would show potential employers that you are more than qualified for the position they are looking for.

If you’re applying as a content writer or editor, it is to be expected that your English writing and vocabulary skills are above average. For other fields of expertise, a basic understanding of the English language and average communication skills are also expected since the potential employers are foreigners.

For Ronald, he is finally happy to find a job where his skills and experience are useful and appreciated.

“Thank you very much OnlineJobs for serving as a medium for me to get a full-time job opportunity. With the type of services you rendered to online workers, I am given the privilege to work anywhere I want as long as I am comfortable to accomplish my duties and responsibilities. Your platform is what Virtual Assistants like me are looking for. I’ve been hired because clients trusted my profile since these clients already trust OnlineJobs.PH,” Ronald concludes.

You too can start a work-at-home career at OnlineJobs.Ph. Just create a free jobseeker profile at www.onlinejobs.ph and you’ll have access to hundreds of new jobs every day!
